The starting point is how the bathroom will be used. Independent living, assisted use and institutional accommodation can require different layouts and equipment. Accessibility requirements need to be defined for the individual project.
- Space and access: agree door openings, thresholds, manoeuvring space and any room needed for assistance alongside the user.
- Support fittings: coordinate grab rails, shower seats and other specified equipment with their fixing positions and reinforcement within the module walls.
- Sanitaryware and controls: review the position and reach of the WC, basin, shower fittings and controls against the intended use.
- Cleaning and maintenance: consider surface specifications, cleaning access and how valves, cisterns and replaceable components can be reached.
- Building interfaces and delivery: coordinate floor levels, service connections, acoustic and fire protection requirements, and the route for bringing modules into the building.
A full-size mock-up allows the operator and project team to review the layout, equipment positions and service access before approving series production.
